Mathematics

Mathematics is one of the key learning areas in the Junior School curriculum. All students are to be provided with experiences in mathematics on a regular basis across the five strands of; Working Mathematically, Number, Patterns and Algebra, Measurement and Data and Space and Geometry so that they:

  • Appreciate Mathematics as an essential and relevant part of life
  • Develop their ability to work mathematically
  • Develop their knowledge, skills and understandings

At St Andrew's Cathedral School's Gawura campus our students:

  • Are supported in developing positive attitudes towards mathematics and themselves as learners and users of Mathematics
  • Are encouraged to use their mathematical knowledge and skills to investigate and solve problems
  • Are encouraged to reflect on, verbalise and verify their problem solving experiences
  • Explore and investigate mathematical ideas, situations and problems, often in creative ways
  • Are given opportunities to develop a mathematical language, through talking and listening, reading and writing
  • Are provided with opportunities for using a range of technology within Mathematics
