Gawura has a popular morning reading programme which provides opportunities to assist primary students from Kindergarten to Year 6 with their reading each morning. The programme commences every morning at 8.55am and finishes at 9.25am. Based on the principals of ‘Pause, Prompt, Praise’, volunteers are required to assist individual students with their reading. This may include helping with pronunciation, spelling out of difficult words, explaining the meaning of words, helping them with their posture and concentration or simply testing their comprehension at the end of each page. Mr David North, Head of Gawura, runs the programme every morning and is there to provide guidance and assistance where required.
