St Andrew's Cathedral School ~ Gawura Campus

Head of Gawura

The Gawura Campus is a unique educational choice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families, located in St Andrew’s Cathedral School.

Gawura’s 2008 enrolment is at its maximum capacity of 25 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. At the end of the year we are looking forward to the transition of our first students into the High School of St Andrew’s.

The Gawura curriculum incorporates intensive literacy and numeracy development with a strong Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander focus. There is an emphasis on providing a learning environment which caters for all students’ individual needs in a safe and friendly atmosphere. The Gawura community, through our Advisory Group, helps to shape the educational direction of the Campus in a collaborative approach with staff; developing an innovative and vibrant educational setting.

Only a year old, Gawura is very much part of whole school life at St Andrew’s. Our students integrate into St Andrew’s Cathedral School from Kindergarten to Year 12. We utilise many of the facilities and staff at the School and our students benefit from whole school resources as well as specialist instruction in Music, Art, Drama, Christian Development, PDHPE and Library studies.

The Gawura Campus has high expectations and aims to promote best practice in education for all.

Education strengthens Aboriginality; it provides opportunity, options and allows us to make choices.
