Animals Flock to Sydney Square
Our City neighbours would have thought it was an earthquake which shook the ground on Monday afternoon, as the students of St Andrew’s Cathedral School presented an audacious musical extravaganza for the first time on Sydney Square at this year’s Showcase Concert – All Creatures Great and Small.
The students presented the amazing musical feature of Benjamin Britten’s most elaborate work for children, Noye’s Fludde, and Camille Saint-Saëns’ well renowned Carnival of the Animals. The decorative music echoed between the towering skyscrapers, redirecting the commuters’ attention and compelling them to detour pass Sydney Square to uncover the commotion.
The concert exhibited a brilliant blend of students across the grades from Kindergarten to Year 12. The mammoth ark, which disguised the entire South Town Hall steps, housed over 190 vivacious and vibrant ‘animals’ from tigers, to peacocks, to elephants, to bears and much, much more.
The audience were blown away by the added effect from the fading sunlight.
Thank you to all the students, staff members and parents who were involved and an additional thank you to Michael Wilkie and his company Coda Audio.

“The use of the Sydney Square setting was inspiring, and I appreciate that it must have been an enormous logistics feat in addition to the fabulous musical direction. And in the Cathedral, the Showcase highlighted the depth and breadth of talent of the students.” St Andrew's Parent
