Education is a proven pathway for real and long-term change for First Nations students, and the strengths-based approach Gawura School has taken for nearly two decades has made a significant impact on the lives of our students, and their community.
Exceptional literacy and numeracy outcomes
With small class sizes and intensive literacy and numeracy support in Kindergarten to Year 6, students build strong foundational skills.
In 2025, Gawura School students enjoyed their best ever NAPLAN results with students achieving above State averages in 6 out of 10 domains.
Above average attendance and engagement
Across Australia, attendance and engagement for First Nations students continues to decline as they move through school.
At Gawura School, a culturally safe and supportive environment helps students feel connected to school. Leading to higher attendance and engagement.

Strong wellbeing and identity
Students thrive academically when they feel safe, valued and connected.
Our approach combines high expectations with nurturing, respectful relationships, connection to community and culture, and targeted wholistic support to help First Nations students feel supported to learn and grow.
