“When children are strong in who they are, they learn with confidence. When they feel safe and affirmed, they grow. When education speaks to both heart and mind, it becomes transformative.”

Pastor Ray Minniecon

Many First Nations students arrive at school already facing significant educational disadvantage. Lower household income, lower levels of parental formal education and fewer educational resources at home can create barriers to learning long before a child enters the classroom.

On average, a Gawura School Kindergarten student begins school already 18 months behind NSW Kindergarten averages, and up to three years behind a St Andrew’s Cathedral School Kindergarten student.

The education gap exists on day one. The Gawura School and St Andrews’ Cathedral School K-12 educational model works to change this trajectory.

“We were supported to succeed while staying connected to who we are.”

– Gawura First Nations Scholarship graduate

More than education

A Gawura First Nations Scholarship is more than access to education. It is an investment in long-term change, helping First Nations students realise their potential and pursue hopeful futures on their own terms.
