Events

We host a small number of significant events each year that bring our community together, celebrate culture and strengthen support for our students and families. These events reflect our commitment to partnership, connection and ongoing cultural celebration.

NAIDOC Week celebrations

Every year, we celebrate NAIDOC Week with a full programme of cultural activities, student performances, classroom learning and community gatherings. It is a time to honour First Nations histories, cultures and achievements, guided by each year’s national NAIDOC theme.

Our NAIDOC celebrations bring students, families, partners and staff together to learn, reflect and celebrate culture in ways that are meaningful and joyful. Highlights from NAIDOC are shared through our newsletters and social media.

This year we celebrate 50 Years of Deadly.

Date: Thursday 25 June from 9:30am
Venue: St Andrew’s Cathedral
Time: 9:30am, followed by morning tea in The Heath Centre
RSVP: complimentary, RSVPs are a must.

Gawura Gathering

Gawura Gathering is our annual major fundraising event. Families, supporters and partners come together in March each year to raise essential funds for Gawura School, and the Gawura Scholarship fund, supporting our First Nations students and programmes.

The event provides vital support for literacy programmes, cultural learning, family support initiatives and opportunities that help students thrive.

It also features powerful stories from students and families, cultural performances, and an opportunity for the community to unite in support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education.

Friends of Gawura School and St Andrew’s Cathedral School

Each year in Term Four, we host a special event to thank the donors, volunteers and community partners who walk alongside Gawura School and St Andrew’s Cathedral School throughout the year.

This gathering is an opportunity for us to express our deep appreciation for the generosity and commitment that sustain our programmes. This informal and entertaining evening is where we celebrate the impact of those who support our students and families. It is one of the most valued events of our year.

Invitations are sent to our supporters in October of each year.

Upcoming events

There’s always something special happening. Our upcoming events are a chance for families and community to come together, celebrate First Nations culture, and share in the moments that matter most to our students.

We warmly invite you to stay connected, join in, and be part of these meaningful experiences.
