Our governance and accountability

The Foundation

Financial management, audit and oversight

Donations to the Gawura Scholarship Fund are received and managed by St Andrew’s Cathedral School Foundation Ltd, the legal and governing entity responsible for the Fund. The Foundation maintains a separate Finance & Risk Committee of the Board, which meets regularly for financial management, risk, and investment performance. The Foundation’s financial statements are subject to independent external audits, providing assurance regarding the proper stewardship and accountability of donated funds.

Charity status and regulatory compliance

St Andrew’s Cathedral School Foundation Ltd is a registered Australian charity and is endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR1). Gifts made to the Gawura Scholarship Fund are tax deductible in accordance with Australian taxation law.

The Gawura Scholarship Fund

The purpose of the Gawura Scholarship Fund, administered by St Andrew’s Cathedral School Foundation Ltd, include:

  • promoting education by advancing and supporting the educational purposes of St Andrew’s Cathedral School and Gawura School
  • administering and acting as trustee for scholarship, prize, and other trusts established in connection with Gawura School and St Andrew’s Cathedral School.

Gawura Scholarship Fund Advisory Committee

The Gawura Scholarship Fund Advisory Committee supports the Foundation by providing advice, assistance, and recommendations in relation to philanthropy and fundraising to support the funding needs of students of Gawura School, both now and into the future, including through to the completion of Year 12 at St Andrew’s Cathedral School’s Secondary School.

Responsibilities of the Advisory Committee

  • Advising the Foundation on fundraising priorities and opportunities for the Gawura Scholarship Fund.
  • Supporting ethical, culturally appropriate and cost-effective fundraising activities.
  • Championing a culture of philanthropy in support of the Gawura Scholarship Fund.
  • Assisting in identifying and engaging potential new supporters.
  • Supporting the development of strong, long term relationships with existing donors.
