In Term 3, we were honoured to welcome Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of Australia, to Gawura School for a memorable celebration of our students, culture and community.
While this was a formal, official visit from the Governor-General, Ms Mostyn was quick to invite us to call her “GG Sam”.
During her visit, GG Sam enjoyed an Aboriginal dance performance by Gawura students, engaged in a lively Q&A with students and shared a special storytelling moment with our Kindergarten class. The visit concluded with morning tea alongside Gawura secondary students, St Andrew’s Cathedral School leaders and valued donors and supporters. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the strength of our community, the importance of culture and connection, and the transformative impact of education.
The visit was a powerful celebration of First Nations culture, connection and community, and an opportunity to demonstrate the transformative impact of education. The occasion also received national media coverage, including on SBS and NITV. Click here to watch the SBS news coverage.
